Entry3_ Le Thi Ngoc Mai

Entry3_Lê Thị Ngọc Mai
 Item1:

Type of Bias:Stereotype.
This picture shows the stereotype of women. “I’m a women so I MUST know how to COOK”. Women is considered as the wife and  the mother in her family. She is obviously responsible for household chores, including cooking. As a result, the women MUST know cooking well. However, not many women can cook in reality because they are too busy with their jobs or they are so lazy to cook by themselves. In some cases, they leave this work to their husbands.

Item 2:

- Type of Bias:Discrimination
-Analysis:
The lady( the old staff  underestimates  the new staff ( the girl). In her opinion, she can’t get promoted so fast. She may be too confident. Because  she herself works  for a long time but hasn’t yet been promoted. Perhaps, she doesn’t believe in her real talent. However, there are some people with excellent skill can achieve the success soon albeit their young age. Furthermore, experiences or age can’t decide everything.

Item 3:

L

Bias type: Prejudice
Analysis : This is about the prejudice on homosexual people. This man in white is holding a board with a women picture to cover his man’s face. This man is not too confident to show his real face because of the prejudice on homosexual people.

  2. I think your item 2 contains prejudice, not discrimination. Because the woman just judges the new employee. She hasn't acted out anything to show her prejudice, so it cannot be discimination (prejudice in action).
The old employees often think the new comers or the young new employees must be too inexperienced and immature to be promoted soon after entering the organisation. That is the prejudice implied, I suppose.

  3. In my opinion, the type of bias in item 3 is Discrimination. From the picture we can know that the homosexual people aren't acceptable (it means they are discriminated) by the society, so they need to be disguised (not to be themselves).

  4. I agree with Anh Ngoc's opinion! I think the third item is an example about sexual discrimination. Many people have negative attitudes towards homosexuality, so if the homesexual persons want to be accepted in society, they have to hide.

  5. I agree with Van anh that the type of bias in your item 2 is prejudice beacause this is the OPINION of the lady not ACTION. She hasn't done anything so it mustn't be discrimination. The prejudice here is that the lady gave negative judment to the new staff: because she is new staff, she is too inexperienced to promote.

  6. I think in item 2, the women is just jealous with the young lady, and she doesn't do anything, so we cannot consider the bias as discrimination. It just prejudice.
And in item 3, i think the bias is discrimination. The man has to hold a board to hide his real face, that means other people must have done something to show him their thought (if they don't do anything, how can he know that he is not accepted and has to disguide)
