ENTRY 3
Identifying
Bias
ITEM 1:
-
- Discrimination
-
- Analysis: This cartoon is about
racial discrimination. The place in cartoon is a court where enforces justice. However,
there is difference between white crimes and colored crimes. White crimes are
put in room which has light and window. Colored crimes are put in dark room.
Moreover, they must sit on a chair which has a lot of instruments of torture. The
white crimes are treated mere decently
than colored crimes.
ITEM 2:
-
- Prejudice
-
- The man in the poster is blowing the smoke
in the face of the woman. This action makes me think that the men don’t respect
the women. The slogan “Blow in her face and she’ll follow you anywhere” makes us
think that the men can charm the women easily, and the men lower honour of
women. By blowing in her face, he can make her follow him anywhere. It seems
that the men can control women.
ITEM 3:

Tory election candidate Shaun Bailey, pictured with
David Cameron, said the black community needed to face up to major challenges
The majority of violent inner-city crime is
committed by black men, police figures suggest.
But the statistics also show that black men are
twice as likely to be victims of such crimes.
Police hold black men responsible for more than
two-thirds of shootings and more than half of robberies and street crimes in
London, according to figures released by Scotland Yard.
The statistics released under Freedom of
Information laws have provoked a debate about the racial make-up of violent
crime in the capital.
-
- Scapegoating
-
- According
to the news, police blamed black man for inner-city crime. However, actually
black men are twice as likely to be victims of such crimes.

Your item 3 seems not to be approriate. As far as I know, we have to 'search for' some articles, pictures, videos, etc. then point out any bias contained. We 're not supposed to restate a bias which is already pointed out. We ourselves have to detect it. In your item, the title shows that the author is aware of the bias. That's why he says "...But the statistics also show that black men are twice as likely to be victims of such crimes".
ReplyDeleteTo conclude, I think you misunderstood the requirements of this assignment :D
Hi you :) your entry is quite good and I totally agree with Van Anh.
ReplyDeleteYour way to find the item is not like the requirement of the teacher ::)
