ENTRY 3

Identifying bias

ITEM 1:

- Stereotype and Prejudice
- Analysis: Many people think that men are always strong, muscular like athletes; therefore, they can do all the difficult work such as "lifeguard". Moreover, men are also the backbone in the family. On the other hand, women are weak and not as smart as men (you can see the Math test with mark F), they can't do as good of a job as men. Women are busy doing the cooking and taking care of the children. The prejudice in this image is a role between men and women in both family and society.

ITEM 2:

- Gender discrimination
- Analysis: It is a lego advertisement. The story tells about 3 people in a family: a father, a daughter and a son. The father very looks down on his daughter. He uses many bad words such as "useless older sister","disgrace"...to talk about this girl. However, the father loves his son very much. And they decide to cast out the sister from home. Finally, the daughter demonstrates that the girl can do better than the boy.
In this video, the author shows very strong gender discrimination. In family, the girl is disregarded, which is vice verse the boy.

ITEM 3:

Poverty is the mother of crime”
                                                                         – Marcus Aurelius -
- Scapegoating
- This sentence says that poverty is blamed for crime. A lot of people think that because the poor don't have money, they are ready to be not law-abiding to do everything to earn money such as stealing, killing somebody...However, it's not true for all the poor. They are not the root of all crime. For example, may crimes are caused by rich people such as avoiding paying tax,  peculating public property, receiving a bribe... Therefore, poverty cannot be blamed for the cause of crime.
