ENTRY 3_ NGUYỄN THỊ THANH
Item 1:
- Prejudice
- Analysis: The boss said to two women:" You're both so qualified, so I've decided, this only fair way to choose a new secretary-whoever can grab this banana first". Looking at the picture, you can find that the women standing front will grab this banana because she is taller than the another and she will be chosen a new secretary. Although the boss ask them to do that to be fair, it's extremely unfair because the shorter women can't grab this banana first. His words show clear prejudice about height, which makes the shorter women feel to be insulted.
Item 2:
- Discimination
- Analysis: The women in the picture is on the phone and she said:" Could I talk to someone who knows something, you know, someone who's a man". Her words show negative distinguish between man and women, she claim someone who knows something is just man not women. In this picture, we find that it has discrimination about sexism.
Item 3:
Câu tục ngữ " Con hư tại mẹ, cháu hư tại bà"
- Scapegoating
- Analysis: This proverb in Vietnam show that mother and grandmother are blame for children's spoil. This proverb is not exactly because there are many reasons for children's spoil such as education of family and school, life style, influences of society....

i think in item 1 is age discrimination, not prejudice. In this interview, there are two different interviewees. One is young girl, who is tall, stylish and sexy :)Besides, there is an old woman, who is quite short. The interviewer decide to employ who can grap the banana first. It's very clear that it's impossible for the old woman to reach it. Therefore, this is discrimination between young woman and the old one.
ReplyDeletei think item 1 is appearance discrimination, not age discrimination.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion:
ReplyDelete- Item 1 is discrimination because in your picture, the difference about height of two women are too clearly. The interviewer still asked them to do like that, it shows his unfair treatment ---> prejudice + the action is choosing the young women---> discrimination
- Item 3 is stereotype. I suppose that it is just an opinion that many circumstances in fact is true like that, so it 's generalized and believed by majority of people.
I also think the Item 1 is discrimination because the boss shows his prejudice in action.
ReplyDeletein my opinion, the first item is about employment discrimination. The man who wants to choose a new secretary based on their age, height and weight. you can read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discrimination :)
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion:
ReplyDelete-The 1st item is discrimination, as the boss did something in purpose to choose a secretary who is young, pretty and stylish
- The 2nd item is prejuice
_I agree with you and all the comments here that the first item is discrimination. the boss suppose that the secretary must be the baeutiful and attractive woman and the woman without good appearance as the boss supposed is enough -conditional to become a secretary.
Delete_however, in the second item, I agree with the entry's author. The bias here is discrimination because the lady want to talk with a man, not a woman. She thought women know nothing although she is a woman (it's prejudice). Wanting to talk with a man is action of prejudice so it have to be discrimination.
I thik item 1 should be discrimination. The boss has given a task that is obviously aim at the young lady. The old woman are not high enough to reach the banana
