Entry 3_HUY NGUYEN

Item 1

Scapegoating
Analysis: In the cartoon, we can see a car accident . High above in the sky, an old man whom is assumed to be God, using a remote control , looking down  and says :"Shit!". It seems that he has just made a fatal mistake. The funny cartoon humourosly blamed the car accident on God , who is believed to control the whole world & people's  fate, which also includes the car accident.

Item 2:

-Identifying bias : Discrimination
-Analysis:  Two little kids are praying to God for peace to everybody in the world.  However they also pray
that the Muslims and Jews would pay the price for their heresy. That's definitely religious discrimination which has rooted deeply  into the subconscious of many people who think that their religion is the best and consider other religions such as Muslims and Jews are heresies.

Item 3:

-Identifying bias :Prejudice
-Analysis: There're two people sitting in the car, a man and a woman. The man is driving the car. Both of them are wearing the seat-belts; however, the women is wearing an additional seat-belt crossing her mouth which makes her unable to speak. From the title above:" New seat-belt design: 45% less car accident" , viewers can infer that woman is blamed for causing accidents because they talk to much while being in the car and distract the driver from driving car. That's a prejudice and in fact it's not true at all.

  1. in my opinion, in your item 3, biases are both STEREOTYPE and SCAPEGOATING, not Prejudice. Because as you said, woman is blamed for causing accidents because they talk to much("New seat-belt design: 45% less car accident")--> scapegoating and women talk much--> stereotype.

  2. I don't think the item 1 is scapegoating. It is a prejudice: human ofen assume that the car accidents are not your responsibilities, they are God's responsibilities.

  3. I also think the item 3 includes stereotype and scapegoating. May be you are confused between stereotype and prejudice. the prejudice is negative judgment for something or someone and the picture here means that the women talk alot. It's just opinion but not negative judgment. The scapegoating bias is that as Giang said
