Entry 3_ Nguyễn Xuân Dương

Identifying bias

Item 1:

- Prejudice
- Analysis: the zombie seemed to be searching for brains, but it left the blond girl untouched as it couldn't find brain inside her. This presents the old prejudice that blond girls are dumb.

Item 2:

- Stereotype
- Analysis: the woman still can not find a perfect man even when all what left of her is her skeleton. This image states that no man is perfect.

Item 3:

- Scapegoating
- Analysis: anti-immigrants blame immigrants for threats to US workers.

  1. In my opinion, the type of bias in the item 2 is prejudice because:
    This is a negative judgment of the woman in the picture that there is no perfect man at all.And perhaps this judgment is not shared by other people.
    -->Therefore, I think it's prejudice in item 2.

    1. I don't think that the woman has a negative judgement. You can see that she is still wating for the "perfect man" even when she has become a skeleton; therefore, the bias can't be prejudice but stereotype

  2. item 3
    as far as i'm concerned, we have to find an item and point out its bias by ourselves, not the one has been pointed out by the author. therefore, i think you should revise it,:)

  3. I think in item 2, there is a prejudice. It is a negative judgement about many of women nowadays. They are believed to be too selective to to find their Mr. Right.

  4. I approve with Duong about the bias level. It's steoreotype. However, It should be explained by stating that there is a oversimplified idea about men " all the men are imperfect" this thought may be shared by many people
